Note from Jeanine: workshop is for ALL levels of experience or no experience. If you can hold a pencil, you have the skills.
In this workshop participants will learn the basics of drypoint intaglio printmaking including how to prepare and draw on plexiglass plates as well as inking, wiping and printing their plates on an etching press. This is a simple, non-toxic form of image making with many possibilities.
Supplies for participants to bring:
Laser prints or sketches (about 3×5” or 4×6”) of images they want to draw onto their plates.
Apron or wear old clothes
Instructor Bio: Jeanine Coupe Ryding’ prints and artists books are in museum and private collections in the U.S, Europe and Japan. Her work focuses primarily on woodcut prints, etchings, artist’s books, drawing and collage. She founded both Shadow Press and Press 928 in Evanston, Illinois for fine art printing and publishing. She received her BA degree from The University of Iowa and her MFA from the Universitat der Kunste, in Berlin, Germany. Jeanine has received various awards and residencies including Illinois Arts Council Award, Arts Midwest Grant, Frans Masereel Center residency in Belgium and Anchor Graphics residency in Chicago. She has been teaching in the Print Media Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since 1991.
