Business of Art Conference

Calling all creatives — art professionals, teachers, coaches, and entrepreneurs! The Octagon and the Ames Community Arts Council are seeking presenters for the 2nd annual Business of Art Conference, to be held at the Octagon on the afternoon of Friday, March 6 and all day Saturday, March 7, 2020. If you are interested in being considered as a presenter, please complete the application and tell us more about yourself and your idea. We are looking for sessions that are practical, informative, and interactive and appeal to artists/creatives at all levels. Find the application below.
More about the Business of Art Conference:
Last year’s conference drew about 75 professional creatives and students from around region for a day and a half of information and networking. Session topics, ranging from business issues to self-care, were based on a survey distributed last year. Topics this year will be based on the feedback of last year’s attendees, and the wonderful variety of applications we receive. In 2019, a variety of different artist media/career paths were represented by the attendees; although originally billed as a conference for visual artists, we found that creative people of all types enjoyed the conference. Attendees were at all stages of their careers, with few students participating. Many participants were retirees pursing a second career and/or individuals making art on a part-time basis. Speakers and attendees expressed a high degree of satisfaction with the conference overall and attendees rated informative sessions (such as demonstrations or specific practical information) most highly.
